Next up are the fairies/spirits from Latvia bringing us Bur Man Laimi, a chant of happiness that could probably pass as a good luck spell of some sort.

Imma start off by saying that the lyrics are very, very repetitive. That said, it's a chant that feels almost like a ritual or a spell - it's fairly entrancing worldbuilding that isn't repetitive for the sake of filling empty space in the lyrics. The chant is supposed to bring happiness and is supposed to be repeated. So... even though I'm not quite vibing with it, it gets a pass on that measure.

There are very strong nature themes in here emphasizing the power and resilience of nature over that of humanity - the oak tree grows and strengthens, while human iron (or copper, depending on what translation you're using) rusts and corrodes. It almost feels like the ladies of Tautumeitas are channeling Mother Nature as she seeks to renew herself.

Melody/Bass: 5/5
Instrumentation: 4.5/5
Development: 3/5
Coherence: 4/5

The harmonies are gorgeous, the polyphony and layering of the different melody lines is done very well, the constant percussion gives it a very strong underlying drive. It creates a very picturesque foresty, floaty, mystical type of soundscape. The whole thing sounds very well written and beautifully done - but somehow it doesn't really draw me in as much as I feel like each individual part kind of should. But I guess that comes down more to the vibes part of the song.

It's really technically great.

A spell was cast. A world was built. A song was experienced.

No other notes.

STAGING - Total: 17.5/25 (70%)
The Show: 6.5/10
The Story: 6/10
Outfits: 5/5

The staging on this one was the least strong part of a fantastic performance. I don't say "weak" because it really wasn't weak at all; I just liked others more.

The string curtain really adds a depth to the performance that I didn't think it would've. It kinda feels like a vine curtain of sorts, maybe? Apart from the slightly awkward moments when the string got caught on the singers, it worked fine, though it did seem a little too minimal.

The contrast between the verse and chorus ("Curses and hexes, curses and hexes, never can they ruin me" vs People arе making a bridge of iron, I made one of oak") plays out in the staging as well, with the bright gold sunrise and dark blue night aesthetic. Building the oak bridge by day, casting protective spells by night.

The outfits are pretty cool too, though my brain keeps thinking "axolotl!". I suppose that's how Latvian forest fairies look, haha. With the tails and all.

Somehow doesn't excite me as much as harmonies usually do. It's technically excellent, but for some reason my heart isn't quite feeling it.

It's not a song problem, it's a me problem.
