New Day Will Rise (Israel 2025)

Israel participated in Eurovision 2025. Whether or not I agree with their inclusion is not relevant to this review.

That is all I will say on this topic.

Verdict: The middest song to ever mid. From a song point of view, Hurricane was so much better.

Even knowing the context, the song lyrics are so generic, it could be about literally anything. As a result I can't give it higher than 6 for subject matter even if I wanted to.

The second verse is simply a rehash of the first but in French. And I have to ask - why? Is there something the French provides that the English doesn't? Certainly not flow - the lyrics kinda sound just as stilted in French as they do in English. Is it a way to reach more people? But then why not do what Italy did and put a translation up on screen and spend more time crafting better, more impactful lyrics?

I am also slightly annoyed by the title itself; "New Day Will Rise" fails to start with an indefinite article and sounds weird, and the very first line begins with "and" when there's no preceding clause.

The vocal line feels a little like it's sticking too many words into too short a space at points; e.g. "you are the rainbow" in the first verse, and "the only song that my piano ever plays" where the "that" could probably just be dropped entirely. I just find the phrasing and word choice odd.

Development: 2.5/5
Coherence: 3/5

The loud, dramatic introductions right before the first and second verses feel very strange, especially since they contrast with the soft vocals right after. I don't know if I'm reading too much into it, but this is something I don't want to speculate on.

I do like the arpeggiated accompaniment. The way it hops and bounces stops the rest of the track from sounding far too heavy and slow. But taken as a whole, the track itself doesn't seem to be one where risks are taken, where new ideas are developed, where everything complements. I have very few notes on this. It just wasn't really all that notable.

This song just... is. I don't find anything about it standing out as impressive.

This is where the strength of the song lies. At least Yuval's a good vocalist with a steady, strong voice. There's one or two notes that sound like they're at the edge of her comfortable range, but that's about it.

Again, it's not bad, but it's also not good. They did bring out more lights into a starry sky whenever she sang "new day will rise", which makes sense, but which is also kind of obvious. I don't get why she was just circling a crystal tower, and the purpose of that crystal tower seems to have flown over my head. The water pouring down the cliff and pooling beneath her lighthouse/tower/whatever is... well, I'm not sure what it's for. Is it like a "don't cry alone, here are the tears of a million other people" thing?

Not sure what her dress is supposed to represent. Perhaps her emotions in light of the event? Perhaps her previous mental space before moving forward? It looks ok, but that's it. She kinda looks like a bird when her wings are out. I'm not able to see how it's specifically relevant to the song.
