Ich Komme (Finland 2025)

Coming all the way from Finland to Austria (and by god if someone comes that far you know they're having fun): it's Erika!

Lmao, my first thoughts on this were, Erika and Sissal feel like the R vs PG versions of each other. Or Erika is dark Sissal. Hahaha.

Verdict: It's clear that Erika fully understood the brief about this being the 69th Eurovision Song Contest.

LYRICS - Total: 19.5/25 (78%)
Subject Matter: 6.9/10 (but again, let's round it up to 7)
Effective Use of Language: 3.5/5
Clarity: 5/5
Flow: 4/5

She knows what she wants and she's here to snatch it. I mean, there's only so many things that can be implied with:

(I'm coming, I'm coming) / And before you come, I hear you screaming / (I'm coming, I'm coming) / And to that, I scream out loud, "I'm coming".

It's not implicit; it's explicit - in both senses of the word. It's very clear, AND it's pretty R-rated.

The lyrics flow nicely without sounding awkward. No eargasms here, but it's good.

Another really fun song that doesn't take itself too seriously. Man, I just love how cheeky this song feels. With those lyrics, there was the potential of it appearing to be more crass and vulgar rather than playful, but Erika doesn't cross that line at all. Not for me, anyway.

The key change between verse and chorus (D minor to D major, I think? Been too long since I used my music theory lmao) worked well; releasing the tension as we got to the "Ich Komme" part and the coming chorus started was definitely fitting,  Having the "Ich Komme" line be sung as part of the prerecord worked too; it made it feel more like a call-and-response type thing between two people doing... you know :P Though, in this case, it was more of the audience itself being the other person.

Also, speeding up as it got to the climax was a masterful stroke ;P

Pretty good, just a few bits sounded a little too low for her. Not much to comment on otherwise, to my untrained ear.

STAGING - Total: 21.5/25 (86%)
The Show: 8/10
The Story: 8.5/10
Outfits: 5/5

I did find that shot of her clapping after "Wunderbar" a little out of place. A little too short to have much of an impact. And the smoke was not something I was sure about. But on the whole it was very engaging, and it definitely looks like she's having a lot of fun. Erika performs dance skills that have obvious sexy connotations, but also never turns it into something that's unrefined or that overstays its welcome. Even the way she moves with and uses the mic stand...

I mean.

The fireworks coming out of the suspended microphone were hilarious and fitting. The leather outfit, once again, is a nod to the subject of the song without being overly sexual - though to be fair, it's hard to do "overly sexual" ever since Olly raised the bar back in 2023.

There's a lot to like about this staging. And her STAGE PRESENCE. Phenomenal.

The energy is great, the performance is cheeky, the idea is amusing. Would absolutely put this on a playlist, even if ich komme nicht to it.
